Lash extensions have revolutionized the beauty industry, offering a way to achieve long, luscious lashes without the hassle of mascara or strip lashes. However, when applying upper lash extensions, it's crucial to protect and isolate the lower lashes to prevent irritation. Taping the lower lashes is a skill that every lash technician should master. I'm going to share my step-by-step process of taping the lower lashes for lash extensions while ensuring the utmost comfort and safety for your clients. No more Red eyes at the end of your set!

Why Taping the Lower Lashes is Essential
-Taping lower lashes for lash extensions-
Taping the lower lashes serves two primary purposes:
Isolation: It isolates the lower lashes from the upper lashes, ensuring they don't get tangled or adhered to the extensions applied to the upper lashes. This separation is crucial to prevent discomfort and irritation for your clients.
Protection: Taping the lower lashes shields them from adhesive and other lash extension materials, preventing any unwanted contact that could lead to eye irritation or allergic reactions.
Properly taped lower lashes not only enhance the client's comfort during the procedure but also promote a smoother and more successful lash extension application. It also helps from getting stickies that can be difficult to unstick at the end of your lash set.
Tools and Materials You'll Need

Ensure you have the following tools and materials ready:
Under Eye Gel Pads: These provide a comfortable barrier between the lower lashes and the tape. They also provide a great hydrating treatment for your clients under eyes while they receive their lash extension service. (Click here for my favorite under eye pads! They have a great stick and are at a great price point!)
Micropore or Paper Tape: Use a gentle, medical-grade tape designed for use on the skin. Micropore tape is an excellent choice as it is breathable and hypoallergenic.(Click here for micropore tape!)
Lash Bath kit: I always like to give the lashes a real good cleansing at the beginning of every lash service. This ensures everything is clean which also helps prevent eye irritation. Lash Bath Kit Here!
With your materials ready, let's move on to the step-by-step process. I always have my micro-pore tape prepped and ready to go so I can move quickly

Key Steps to note! Place the eye-pads below the lower lashes....Not over the lower lashes and not right next to the water line! That is a sure way to cause irritation! There is a solution on the under-eye pads that will irritate the eyes. Place the pads below the lashes and use the micro-pore tape to secure the lower lashes down to the eye-pads.
Check for comfort ability and adjust the eye-pads as needed.

Proceed with Lash Extensions
With the lower lashes successfully taped and the client comfortable, you can now proceed with the upper lash extension application. Be mindful not to touch the lower lashes with any adhesives, extensions, or tools during this process.
Post Eye-Pad Removal

Once you've completed the upper lash extension application, it's time to carefully remove the tape:
Gently peel the tape away, moving from the outer to the inner corner to minimize any discomfort or irritation. Also be sure to start with the top piece of tape and move your way down to prevent pulling out your clients natural lower lashes.
Dispose of the used tape in a hygienic manner.
After removing the tape, ensure that the client's lower lashes are not glued together, and there is no adhesive residue. If necessary, use a mascara wand to comb through and separate the lashes.
