Lashes that last longest have owners that know how to properly care for those peepers. To ensure that your lash extensions last as long as possible, proper care and maintenance are essential. One of the most important things to remember is to avoid getting your lashes wet for at least 12-24 hours after the application. This allows the adhesive to fully dry and bond with your natural lashes. It's also crucial to avoid rubbing or pulling at your lashes, as this can cause them to fall out prematurely, also the natural oil on your fingers is going to break down the glue. Instead, gently brush through your lashes with a clean spoolie brush to keep them looking neat and tidy. Here are some more tips on how to Make Lash Extensions Last Longer
Avoid oil-based products: Oil can break down the adhesive used to attach the lash extensions. Opt for oil-free makeup removers and skincare products to prevent premature shedding.
Be mindful of your sleeping position: Sleeping on your stomach or side can cause your lashes to become tangled or bent. Try to sleep on your back to maintain the integrity of your lash extensions.
Skip the mascara: One of the benefits of lash extensions is that you don't need to wear mascara. Mascara can clump and weigh down your lashes, leading to faster shedding. If you feel the need for extra volume, opt for a lash serum instead, and definitely do not use waterproof mascara on those beautiful lash extensions.
Another crucial step in ensuring you have great lash retention is to Choose the Right Lash Extension Technician.
The skill and expertise of your lash extension technician play a significant role in the longevity of your lashes. When choosing a technician, do your research and read reviews to ensure they have a good reputation. Look for someone who is certified and experienced in lash extensions.
During your initial consultation, discuss your desired look and any concerns you may have. A skilled technician will be able to recommend the right type of lash extensions for your eye shape and lifestyle.
Stick to your Aftercare instructions for Long-Lasting Lash Extensions
Proper aftercare is crucial for maintaining the longevity of your lash extensions. Here are some more essential aftercare tips to keep in mind:
Avoid water and steam for the first 24 hours: Water and steam can weaken the adhesive, causing your lash extensions to fall out prematurely. Skip the hot showers and saunas for at least a day after your lash extension application.
Again, Brush your lashes daily: Use a clean spoolie brush to gently comb through your lashes. This helps to keep them looking separated and free from tangles.
Avoid oil-based products: As mentioned earlier, oil can break down the adhesive. Be mindful of the products you use on your face and around your eyes.
There are also Products to Enhance the Longevity of Lash Extensions While proper care and maintenance are essential, certain products can help enhance the longevity of your lash extensions. Here are some recommended products to consider:
1. Lash extension sealants: These sealants create a protective barrier around your lash extensions, helping to prolong their lifespan. Look for sealants that are specifically formulated for lash extensions and apply them every few days. Blink Black Diamond Coating is a top pick among clients!
2. Oil-free makeup removers: As mentioned earlier, oil-based products can weaken the adhesive. Switch to oil-free makeup removers to ensure that your lash extensions stay in place. The Neutrogena Gentle Eye makeup remover is a soothing liquid containing aloe and cucumber extracts to help soothe your skin and work gently without the harsh tugging, pulling or stinging of the sensitive eye area, skin, or lash extensions!
3. Lash extension-safe mascara: If you absolutely must wear mascara, look for a mascara that is specifically formulated for lash extensions. These mascaras are usually water-based and designed to be gentle on the lashes.
GladGirl/ Lashe EnMasse Mascara for Eyelash Extensions is a must have! GladGirl oil-free mascara will coat and protect your eyelash extensions by enhancing volume, definition, color and appearance of length in a smooth, smudge-free finish which lasts all day and the life of your false lashes
Maintenance Routine for Lash Extensions To ensure that your lash extensions stay in perfect condition, it's important to establish a regular maintenance routine. Here's a suggested routine to follow:
Schedule regular touch-up appointments: Lash extensions naturally shed over time. We shed 1 to 4 natural lashes everyday, so it's important to schedule touch-up appointments every few weeks to maintain their fullness.

This is a game changing step that I do for each of my clients that you can easily do as well for your own clients to improve their lash retention. Start each lash session, new sets and fills alike, with a lash bath. There's several reasons a lash bath will improve your lash extension retention. First, it gives the lashes a deep cleansing to remove all the oil and debris present on the lashes. Second, the warm water used when you rinse the lashes opens up the lash hair follicles which causes the natural lashes to really grip onto that glue. Lastly, clients love getting a lash bath! It's an added touch that will really set you apart from other lash artists and keep your clients always coming back to you for more! For my exact lash bath service see it here!
