As a lash artist, one of the most essential tools in your arsenal is a pair of high-quality eyelash tweezers. These small but mighty instruments are the key to achieving flawless lash extensions. But did you know that how you hold your tweezers can greatly impact your results? In this article, we will delve into the art of holding eyelash tweezers and unlock the secret to perfecting your grip.
Why it matters?
One of the most common issues I see right from the beginning when new lash artists are learning is how they hold their tweezers. The way you hold your tweezers directly affects your precision, control, and overall performance as a lash artist. A proper grip ensures that you can handle the delicate lash extensions with ease and accuracy. It allows you to manipulate the tweezers effortlessly, placing each extension exactly where it needs to be. With the correct hold, your hands will become an extension of your creativity, resulting in stunning lashes that your clients will adore. Also, skip the frustration! The way you hold your tweezers will either help make the lashing process so much easier or so much more difficult if not held correctly.
How to Hold Eyelash Tweezers Properly
Let's master the art of holding those tweezers correctly. Follow these steps to achieve the perfect grip:
Relax your hand: Start by relaxing your hand and fingers. A tense grip can hinder your precision and cause unnecessary strain.
Use your dominant hand to hold your lashing tweezer. This is how I like to hold my lashing tweezer. You can see that I use my ring finger to help steady my hand under the eye. Instead of trying to hold your tweezer like a pencil, hold it this way to provide more sturdyness. This was a game changer when I figured this out! Try it.... you can thank me later😉

3. In your less dominant hand, hold your tweezer that you are going to use to isolate the lashes... usually your left hand if you're right handed:)) This is how I like to hold my isolating tweezer.
4. Position your hands: Avoid gripping the tweezers too tightly, as it can lead to hand fatigue.
5. Practice control: Practice opening and closing the tweezers with precision. The more control you have, the easier it will be to pick up and place lash extensions accurately and to isolate.

Different Types of Eyelash Extension Tweezers
Eyelash extension tweezers come in various shapes and sizes, each designed for a specific purpose. One thing I have found is that everyones hands are different and everyone likes different tweezers so don't be afraid to try out several! It's kind of like when Harry Potter is trying to find the right wand! You'll know it when you hold it and you try it a few times🤗
Another tip on tweezers is don't invest a gazzillion dollars on tweezers. There's perfectly good lashing tweezers on amazon that wont break the bank. Another reason not to spend crazy amounts of money for tweezers is because as a lash artist, at some point and more than once, you are going to drop those tweezers! And when you drop them, and they hit the tip, they're toast😥 So just save yourself the saddness. These are my personal top pick tweezers that I still use today if you'd like to try them out! But, don't be discouraged if these don't work for you...remember what works for me may not work for you. These are great tweezers though and I feel like I've tried them all!!
Curved Tweezers: Curved tweezers have a slight bend at the tip, allowing for a more comfortable grip and increased visibility. They are ideal for applying volume lashes or classic lashes and creating a natural-looking curl. My top pick is the Shining Crown Curved Tweezer. (click here to check it out)
2. Angled Tweezers: Angled tweezers have a slanted tip, making them excellent for reaching difficult angles and corners. They are often used for precision work and intricate lash designs. The 45 degree angle tweezer is my favorite! (Click here to check it out)
3. Last but not least is your straight tweezer. These are perfectly for lashing those tiny hard to see lashes that are in the inner and outter corners of the eye. These also work well for removing old grown out lash extensions. (click here to check it out)
Choosing the Best Eyelash Extension Tweezers for You
When selecting tweezers, look for ones that feel comfortable in your hand and have a good grip. Additionally, consider the material of the tweezers. Stainless steel tweezers are a popular choice due to their durability and resistance to rust. Experiment with different types of tweezers until you find the perfect Wand!!!!.....or tweezer😁
Tips for Maintaining the Grip on Your Eyelash Tweezers
Once you've found your magic eyelash tweezers, it's helpful to properly maintain those tweezers so you can get the most life out of them and so you can keep lashing like a Pro!
Keep your tweezers clean: Regularly clean your tweezers with a disinfectant solution to remove any residue or buildup that may affect your grip. If you decide to soak your tweezers in a barbacide solution be sure to never leave them soaking for more than 10 minutes as that will dull and ruin your tweezers over time.... trust me I know....why am I so lazy sometimes!? I've done this way too many times and it's true.... It'll ruin your tweezers if you leave them soaking too aften.
Store your clean tweezers in a clean and dry container that will protect them and keep them from getting banged up. I store mine in a pencil box lined with paper towels on my lash cart.
Keep acetone on hand. You can give the tip of your tweezers a little dip and wipe every once in awhile to remove any lash glue that may have gotten stuck to them.
Secret tip!!!! Keep a nail file on hand! I use it regularly to sharpen the grip and clean glue off the tip of my tweezers
Some final Tips To Leave you With
I'm trying to think of everything I can to help you with your tweezers! I want to mention that typically the tweezers that come in a lash training kit are cheap, heavy, and no good. They make lashing feel much more difficult than it is so get yourself some of my recommended tweezers to start with. And lastly lashing takes patience and time so be patient with your self and remember to take a deep breath and try again. The secret to becoming a sucessful lash artist is to not give up! If you keep practicing and putting your self out there, I promise you will become a sucessfull lash artist. If I could do it, you most certainly can❤
Happy Lashing and Cheers!
