being an esthetician

Are you thinking about becoming an Esthetician? Well I am here to tell you that you should definitely go for it!! Becoming an esthetician has literally changed my life for the good! I had no idea the possibilities, opportunities and doors it would open up for me and I'm so grateful for the esthetics world! I never knew you could have a job that is as fulfilling, profitable, flexible and fun as this job! Working as an estheticaian has been the most rewarding and best job I've ever had!! Let me tell you why❤😉

Let's Go Back

Once upon a time, way, way back in the year 2000. I was graduating high school. I had dreams of becoming a dental hygienist, getting married, popping out a few kids and living happily ever after......well as life usually goes, things didn't turn out exactly as I had planned but luckily, looking back on it all, although not easy, everything has turned out even better then I had hoped.🥰

College was not easy for me. I did well in high school because all I had to do was turn in my work, be nice to the teachers and you got a good grade:) College was a whole different ball game. Teachers have no clue who you are and your entire grade is based off of test scores....no more smoozing the teachers! I really, really struggled with college so I did what some do and I dropped out😬

Yeah.....but anyways, moving on. I decided to enroll into a trade school and become a dental assistant. I actually have learned to really appreciate trade schools! You really can make a great income and career by learning and picking the right trade so don't be discouraged if you're a college drop out like me😀 So I was able to become a dental assistant and I worked as one for a few years. I really enjoyed it at first. I also got married during that time to a hard working, sexy man!❤ A few years passed, and I'd moved around to a couple different dental offices and things were going okay but not too long after being married and working, I began to really not enjoy my job as a dental assistant anymore. I was making $10 an hour, working for a psychopath dentist who would yell at me and it was just miserable to be at work. I decided to quit being a dental assistant all together and I started working with my husband on his business that he was building. So for the next few years, I worked hard with my husband and then eventually started popping out those kids I wanted.😁 I became a full time mom to 3 kids and that was my job for the next several years. I loved that time with my kids and being home all day everyday. 10 Years passed by and I had become pretty recluse, not wanting to leave the house much and I had fallen into a pretty bad state of depression. I knew I needed to get out of the house, I knew I needed some sort of a job that could challenge me and help me feel good about myself and I knew I needed a job that paid more than $10 an hour. I also knew I wanted to be my own boss and I needed something that was flexible since I had a husband and 3 kids. And....On top of all that, I wanted to work from home. Not many things fit that whole criteria but one night I woke up and I thought "I should learn how to do eyelash extensions!" It wasn't easy to learn and the first year mostly just created a lot of anxiety for me but I stuck with it and I was getting busier and busier and learning and growing, and making new friends and making money and I had something that was challenging me. I decided "well, I should probably become legal and get my esthetics license" So I went to Esthetician School and I learned to do other services besides just lash extensions! I learned, facials, waxing, makeup, and so much more! I really enjoyed Esthetician school mostly because I was learning things that I was actually interested in! And I was learning how to offer things that people wanted!! I had no idea all the possibilities that came along with being an esthetician. After I graduated and got my license, I started offering all of the services I had learned and I quickly became so booked up I was having to turn new clients away often. It's been several years now since I've gotten my esthetics license and I have learned so much in the process. I've gained confidence and have really become the person I had always hoped I would be. I've become not afraid any more and I have learned to set boundaries for myself and to do the things I want to do! I've also been led to other ways to make revenue without me having to be physically in my studio working on clients:) At the moment I see just the few clients I want to see each week and then with the rest of my time, I do online lash and beauty courses as well as some in person lash extension trainings at beauty schools! I have time to spend with my family, slip in a nap every once in while, and have a bank account balane that's in the positive. I write blog posts each week, and I love it so much! In fact, here's a pic of me today getting ready to write this blog post. I'm on a family vaca in Mexico with my family.

This keeps the job exciting and allows you to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in skincare.

Secondly, esthetics is a highly flexible career. Whether you prefer to work in a spa, salon, or even start your own business, the possibilities are endless. This flexibility allows you to create a work-life balance that suits your needs and preferences.

Furthermore, estheticians often have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with their clients. By helping individuals feel confident and beautiful in their own skin, you can make a positive impact on their lives and create lasting relationships.

Job Outlook and Earning Potential for Estheticians

The demand for skincare services has been steadily increasing, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of estheticians will grow much faster than the average for all occupations.

As people become more conscious of the importance of self-care and maintaining a youthful appearance, the need for skilled estheticians will continue to rise. This means that job opportunities in the field are plentiful, giving you the freedom to choose where and how you want to work.

In terms of earnings, estheticians can have a wide range of income depending on factors such as location, experience, and clientele. On average, estheticians earn a median annual wage of around $34,000. However, it's important to note that this figure can increase significantly for those who specialize in high-demand services or have a loyal client base.

How to Become an Esthetician - Education and Licensing Requirements

The first requirement is to complete a formal education program. Esthetician programs can be found at community colleges, vocational schools, and specialized esthetics schools. These programs typically range from 300 to 1,500 hours, depending on the state's licensing requirements.

During your education, you will learn about various skincare techniques, product knowledge, facial treatments, and much more. You will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through practical training and internships. This comprehensive education will prepare you to provide top-notch services to your future clients.

After completing your education, you will need to obtain a license to practice as an esthetician. Licensing requirements vary by state but generally involve passing a written and practical exam. It's crucial to check the specific requirements of your state and ensure you meet all the necessary criteria.
