So what exactly is eyebrow mapping? -Guide to eyebrow mapping-

Eyebrow mapping is a technique used to determine the perfect shape and placement of your eyebrows based on your unique facial features. It involves measuring and marking specific points on your brows to achieve symmetry and balance. By mapping out your brows, you can create a guide to follow when shaping and filling them in, totally awesome, right?!

Why is it important to map out the eyebrows?

Eyebrows are not just a trendy beauty statement; they play a crucial role in enhancing your facial features. Well-shaped brows can lift your eyes, make you look more awake, and even make your face appear slimmer! Eyebrow mapping makes sure that you achieve the best possible shape for your brows, tailored to your face shape and bone structure.

Eyebrow mapping tools and materials

I've tried a few different ways to map out the eyebrows and I have found a very simple way to map out the brows accurately and quickly. I'm going to share with you my secret brow mapping recipe! To get started with eyebrow mapping, you'll need a few essential tools and materials. Here's a list of the 3 very simple, yet essential, eyebrow mapping supplies I personally use in my studio today!

1. Eyebrow mapping string: This is a thin, flexible string that is used to measure and mark the various points on your brows. Parallel products is one of my favorite mapping strings to use. At only 1 mm, this mapping string is the perfect thickness for a truly professional job. A thinner string also means no excess ink getting in your way, just smooth crisp lines!

2. Eyebrow measuring tool: This specialized eyebrow measuring tool, which is a ruler-like device with pre-marked measurements, helps to check and make sure that your mapping sting lines are accurate and that both eyebrows match each other.

3. Spoolie Brush (Disposable Mascara Wand): These work well to brush through the eye

brows before you begin the mapping process.

Now that you have your tools ready, let's map out those brows with these easy to follow steps!

Step-by-step guide to eyebrow mapping with string

  1. Start by brushing your brows upward using a spoolie brush to reveal their natural shape.

  2. Hold the eyebrow mapping string against the part of the nose where the nostril meets the middle of the nose (See line one in the image above). You can give the string a slight outward slant to give the brows a more natural look. Also, check where their natural brow begins. Sometimes it will align with the inner corner of their eye. This will be the starting point for your brows.

  3. Mark this point lightly holding your mapping string taught.

  4. Next, move the string to the outside corner of the nostril. (See line 2). From there stretch the string across and align the string through the middle of your clients pupil and up through the brow. This will mark the arch of the brow..

  5. Again, from the outside of the nostril, hold the string across and through the outside edge of the eye and this will mark the ending point of the brow.

  6. Repeat the process on the other brow, ensuring that the measurements are as symmetrical as possible using the Eyebrow measuring tool.

Now find the center of the nose and use the string to mark the center between the brows.

Once you have the middle of the brows marked, using your string, make an X from the bottom of one brow to the top of the opposite brow making sure that the lines cross at the center of the nose line. From there you can connect all of your lines giving you the perfect brow shape! Be sure to use the eyebrow measuring tool to check that both eyebrows are symmetrical.

To use the eyebrow Measuring tool:

  1. Place the tool against yours or your clients face, aligning it with the starting point of the brows and the arch. Check to make sure that both brows are the same length.

  2. From there, measure from the arch to the end of the eyebrow and be sure both eyebrows have the same measurement.

This extra measuring step will ensure that the eyebrows are symmetrical.

Common mistakes to avoid when eyebrow mapping

While eyebrow mapping is a great technique for achieving flawless brows, there are a few common mistakes to watch out for:

  1. Over-plucking: Mapping your brows correctly is pointless if you over-pluck them. Be cautious and only remove stray hairs outside the mapped area.

  2. Ignoring your natural brow shape: It's essential to work with your natural brow shape when mapping. Trying to force a different shape can lead to unnatural-looking brows.

  3. Uneven measurements: Symmetry is key in eyebrow mapping. Take your time to ensure that the measurements and markings on both brows are as close as possible.

Tips for achieving symmetry and balance in eyebrow mapping

Achieving symmetry and balance is crucial in eyebrow mapping. Here are a few tips to help you achieve the perfect shape:

  1. Take breaks: Step away from the mirror and give your eyes a break during the mapping process. This will allow you to assess the symmetry more accurately.

  2. Use a steady hand: When marking the points, make sure your hand is steady to achieve precise measurements. Eat breakfast before you work🤗

  3. Compare and adjust: Don't be afraid to make adjustments as needed.

Eyebrow mapping for different face shapes

Different face shapes require different brow shapes to achieve the most flattering look. Here are some general guidelines:

  1. Round face: A high arch and an elongated brow shape can help create the illusion of a slimmer face.

  2. Square face: Soft, curved brows work best to balance out the strong angles of a square face.

  3. Heart-shaped face: A rounded arch and a slightly shorter tail can complement the wider forehead and narrower chin.

  4. Oval face: Lucky you! Oval faces can pull off a variety of brow shapes, so feel free to experiment and find what suits you best.
