Mary Kay Products

Oh Mary Kay....you've been around and a part of my life for many, many, years and I Love you for many more reasons than just your makeup and skin care. My very first experience with Mary Kay was when I was about 11 years old and I got invited to go with my mom to a Mary Kay party!!! I was Soooo excited! I don't remember too much about the party except that the Mary Kay Beauty Consultant offered a free gift to anyone who wanted to host their own party and I remember immediatly shooting my arm up as a voleenteer! My mom gave me a bit of a side eye but agreed to host a party! On the way home, I got the talk. My mom told me that Mary Kay is a gimmick and I got the sense that my mom was really not interested and was a little irritated that she was going to have to host a party:)......whoops! I thought the party we had just went to was great!! I learned things about skin care that I had never known, I got to try all kinds of fun products and give myself a makeover! It totally shocked me that my mom wasn't dying to throw her own party! I understand it a bit more now that I'm 41 and not 11 years old but at the time I thought Mary Kay partys were the coolest parties ever!! So flash forward 8 years when I'm in college and I live in an apartment with 5 other girls and a Mary Kay consultant shows up at our apartment. I do the whole makeover with all my roomates and of course, I'm sold on all of the Mary Kay products! I want to buy the complete skin care set but the only problem is that I am a completly broke college student. So I do what any responsible college student would do and I call my mom and ask for an early birthday present and if she would pay for this Mary Kay skin care set I want. Again, I get the talk. Mary Kay is just a gimmick and NO! So by now it's been pretty implanted into my brain that Mary Kay is bad and is a scam to get your money:( Fast forward a few years after that, I'm a young, married 22 year old, still broke girl and I get invited by my aunt to listen to this phone recording. I still remember it was a recording of Allison Lemar, a top sales director for Mary Kay Cosmetics, talking about all the incredible opportunities Mary Kay has given her and how much money she has made and all of the incredible trips she has taken because of the Mary Kay business. It sounded like a dream to me, especially since I was broke and I hated my current job. I decided Mary Kay had entered my life enough times and that I wasn't going to shoot it down anymore. So against my moms advice, I joined my aunts Mary Kay Team! I remember it was so exciting and so much fun to receive all of my new Mary Kay supplies, my new business bag and all the fun things you get in your new starter up kit.

Mary Kay Starter Kit

I started going to the weekly team meetings and I loved all the new things I was learning and the new friends I was making. I learned a lot about sales and how to look professional and so many useful tips. I was a very shy person and extremely introverted but I loved the thought of being a successful Mary Kay consultant. I started booking parties and it was so very uncomfortable for me but so good for me at the same time!! I didn't end up staying as a consultant for very long though. I only lasted about a year. It was tough to try and sell products when I couldn't even afford to buy them myself plus I hated feeling like a sleazy sales person. 🥴

Why I Choose Mary Kay Products Again

Fast Forward again 18 years after that and I'm a newly licensed Esthetician with a ton more knowledge on skin care products and skin care. I had built a pretty successful business doing lash extensions, facials and full body waxing. I was obsessed with learning about different skin care products and was looking into starting my own skin care line. The more I researched, the more I realized how great the Mary Kay products really are. I found there are actually only 7 main manufacturing companies that control most of the big beauty brands that are around today. I also found, while trying to start my own skin care line, that most of these smaller and newer skin care lines come from private white label companies and are not backed by the years and years of research and millions of dollars invested in creating the best products possible. Mary Kay Spends more money on research and development of their products than almost all other cosmetic companies combined! Okay seriously, that's really cool and that alone tells you that their products are far superior than other cosmetic brands. Another benefit of Mary Kay Products is that they follow the European standards for ingredients allowed in their products. The FDA in the United States has only banned ELEVEN ingredients, while in Europe, 1,000 ingredients are banned! Yikes! Mary Kay products are one of the safest cosmetic products available in the U.S. Everything we apply to our skin is being absorbed into our bodies so we want to be very mindful of what we are using. Another fact that I love about Mary Kay products is that just since 1996, the Mary Kay Foundation has contributed more than $80 million to organizations aligned with its two-fold mission: funding research for cancers affecting women and ending domestic violence and gender-based violence against women and girls. Wow! How awesome is that.

Mary Kay Charities

So every time you buy Mary Kay products you are contributing to some incredible causes. I love it so much! So, in my opinion are Mary Kay Products one of the best in the market? Most definitely YES!

Flip Side to Mary Kay

Okay so yes we have figured out that Mary Kay products are one of the best in the industry but there is still a flip side to Mary Kay products and that is the business part of it. I didn't like feeling like a sleazy sales person when I was 21 and I don't like feeling like one today. Sometimes I forget lessons that I've already learned so I repeat the same mistakes. Both times when I signed up to be a Mary Kay consultant I quickly got sucked into the bubble of wanting so badly to be a successful consultant and to climb the Mary Kay ladder and earn a pink Cadillac and walk the stage at the conferences and wear a crown and earn jewelry!......is that weird I wanted that?:) It was all consuming and the thought of it was so exciting yet at the same time depressing because in order for me to get that I had to get others to buy the products and join my Mary Kay Team. Which in order for me to do that I'd have to be, in my mind at least, a sleazy sales person again. It was hard because I thought if I climbed that ladder and earned all those things, I would feel happy and fulfilled and admired and successful! But I felt like I had no control and was dependent on other people to get there. It sucks you in deep. Luckily, I figured out the solution to enjoying all the great things Mary Kay has to offer without the flip side. Drop the whole business side of it and just enjoy the products. You're still a part of the Mary Kay family and get to participate in all the fun things it offers. Technically you only have to make at least one $225 order per year to remain a Mary Kay consultant. You can enjoy it all and move on with your life without having to harass all your friends and family to buy your products and feel this constant feeling of wanting something that pushes you to be something you don't want to be .....sleezy sales person. Anyways, that's my own personal story with Mary Kay. And to Each their own. Cheers!
