Hey beauty lovers, can we all agree that achieving that dreamy, flawless skin isn't always a walk in the park? Sometimes, some of us (yes, including yours truly) make skincare blunders that set us back on our quest for radiant skin. In the spirit of sharing and learning, I've compiled a list of 6 rookie skincare mistakes most commonly made, so you can sidestep them and keep your skin glowing.
1. Over-Exfoliation Fiasco

Ah yes, the obsessive exfoliator in me thought "more is more" when it came to scrubbing away dead skin cells. Little did I know, over-exfoliating spells disaster for your skin barrier. Instead, opt for gentle exfoliants and limit it to 2-3 times a week. Your skin will thank you! Check out my top favorite exfoliating cleanser that I use on myself as well as my clients!
2. Skimping on Sunscreen
Sunscreen? Who needs that, right? Wrong! I've learned the hard way that skipping sunscreen is a one-way ticket to premature aging and sun damage. Remember, sunscreen is your skin's BFF. Incorporate it into your daily routine and let your skin bask in the protective goodness. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Light Fluid Facial Sunscreen SPF 60 is by far my favorite facial moisturizer! Soaks in Amazingly, leaving skin moisturized without looking or feeling oily. Click here to check it out!
3. Ignoring Patch Testing
Oh, the lovely excitement of trying a new skincare product without patch testing first. Spoiler alert: it doesn't always end well. Always patch test new products on a small area to prevent unwanted reactions and breakouts. Your skin will thank you for this extra step of caution!
4. Being Reckless with Product Layering
Layering skincare products like a mad scientist mixing concoctions? Guilty as charged! However, less is more when it comes to product layering. Overloading your skin with products can lead to irritation and clogged pores. Stick to a simple routine and let each product work its magic without overwhelming your skin.
A good night time routine is cleanse, exfoliate (only 2 to 3 times a week), tone if needed, eye cream, serum and/or moisturizer. Same routine in the morning but sure to moisturize with a moisturer that includes SPF!!! La Roche up above 👆 is a great morning moisturizer❤️

5. Not Using the Right Skincare Products for Your Skin Type
Using the right skincare products for your skin type is essential for maintaining healthy and glowing skin. Here are some tips on how to choose the right products for your skin type:
- Skin Type Break Down
Normal Skin: Balanced skin with few imperfections.
Dry Skin: Skin feels tight and may be flaky.
Oily Skin: Skin appears shiny and is prone to acne.
Combination Skin: Skin is oily in some areas and dry in others.
Sensitive Skin: Skin is easily irritated and prone to redness.
- Read Labels Carefully
Look for products that are formulated for your specific skin type. Avoid ingredients that may irritate or worsen your skin condition.
-Consider Your Skin Concerns
Whether you're dealing with acne, aging, hyperpigmentation, or other skin issues, choose products/serums that target your specific concerns.
-Start with a Simple Routine
Begin with a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen tailored to your skin type. Gradually introduce additional products like serums or exfoliants as needed.
-Patch Test New Products
Before applying a new product to your face, do a patch test on a small area of skin to check for any adverse reactions.
-Consult a Dermatologist
If you're unsure about which products to use, seek advice from a dermatologist or esthetician who can recommend a skincare routine tailored to your specific needs.

6. Neglecting Hydration
Hydration? Who cares, right? Wrong again! Dehydrated skin is a breeding ground for a host of skin issues. Make sure to hydrate your skin from the inside out by drinking plenty of water …..( side note, the food you also ingest impacts the skin greatly! Check out my post on foods that make your skin Glow!) okay, back to hydrateing the skin with drinking water as well as pampering it with hydrating serums and moisturizers. Your skin will radiate that coveted healthy glow. Murad Hyaluronic Acid Face Moisturizer is fantastic!
So there you have it, my fellow skincare enthusiasts! Learn from my mishaps and steer clear of these common skincare blunders. Your skin deserves all the love and care you can give it. Here's to a journey towards a radiant, healthy complexion!
Remember, skincare is a journey, not a race. Take your time to understand your skin's needs and treat it with the love and attention it deserves.
Happy glowing! ✨
